@AfNutr: Runner-up Media Campaigner for the Year 2020

About @AfNutr

The @AfNutr Twitter was established by four Registered Nutritionists Vicki Pyne, Lynn Burns, Dr Suzanne Zaremba and Dr Laura Wyness, who were passionate about enabling networking opportunities, promoting evidence-based nutrition learning and enhancing the professional practice of Nutritionists. @AfNutr provides Twitter chats, website content and networking opportunities to AfN Registrants, Dietitians and other Health Professionals, across the UK and abroad to facilitate learning and professional practice.  This includes sharing evidence-based information on food and its relationship to health via social media.

@AfN stands out on social media as the only regular moderated chat for Registered Nutritionists across all five specialism promoting standards of conduct, evidence-based nutrition and CPD.  @AfNutr ensures its chats are well supported and evidenced-based through collaboration with other well-respected nutrition professionals from the likes of World Cancer Relief Fund, University of Dundee, AfN, and the National Association of British and Irish Millers.

Why AfNutr was nominated

It became increasingly apparent during the Covid-19 pandemic that there was a large amount of inaccurate nutrition and diet-related information circulating online. @AfNutr. became a lifeline for Registered Nutritionists who were active on social media, providing accurate and reliable information on diet and its relationship with health.  Something Caroline Walker herself was passionate about.

During Covid-19 lockdown, @AfNutr. responded to the new normal of working and studying at home, by creating their first AfNutr. Cafe as a means for nutritionists to communicate, stay focussed and keep connected.  AfNutr Cafes are online Zoom chats that bring nutritionists together from all over the globe to network, discuss topical issues in nutrition and share ideas.

@AfN currently has around 2000 followers on Twitter.  Chats regularly result in around 300 plus tweets per month.
